Two University of Georgia students recently found themselves with legal problems after encounters with the police. One found herself arrested for underage possession of alcohol after spending a night in the hospital and the other found himself under arrest for marijuana possession after driving to Athens from Atlanta.

According to Red & Black, a University police officer spotted a group of people early Saturday morning helping a young woman walk toward Lipscomb Hall. When the officer asked the people what they were doing, they said they were helping get their friend to a car so that she could be transported to a hospital.

She was apparently inebriated.

The officer asked her for a form of identification. She found her student ID, which police said showed that she's under 21.

She reportedly told the officer that she'd been to the Buddha Bar, where someone had purchased a drink for her.

She was then taken to a nearby hospital.

The next morning at 7:10, University Police arrested her for underage possession of alcohol.

In the other case, a 25-year-old UGA student was pulled over by an officer for driving with an expired license plate. The officer reported that as he approached the car, he smelled the odor of marijuana.

When the driver went to get his insurance information from his glove compartment, the officer spotted a bag containing what appeared to be marijuana.

The officer said the student made an unsuccessful attempt to hide the bag before handing it to the officer.

The student said he bought the pot in Atlanta, but hadn't smoked any on his way to Athens.

The officer also found two small, additional amounts of marijuana in the student's pockets.

The man was arrested for possession of marijuana and then taken to Clarke County Jail.
